Q: What makes HawaiiActive.com car rentals different?
A: As a major one-stop travel portal for Hawaii vacationers, HawaiiActive.com’s high volume of car rentals, activities, and vacation rentals allows us to negotiate special deals with the car rental companies and pass discounts of up to 50% to you. We are also able to offer additional money-saving combination deals.
Q: Does my car come with unlimited mileage?
A: Yes. All the cars we rent in Hawaii come with Unlimited Mileage.
Q: Is there a difference in the quality of the car I rent if I book through HawaiiActive.com?
A: No. We make your reservation with major car rental providers and rent you the same quality and model of car everyone rents from that company.
Q: Why make a Reservation with you? Can't I just go to the rental car counter at the airport when I arrive?
A: You can, but it is difficult to get a competitive rate this way. It is easier to use HawaiiActive.com to book ahead of time and be assured of a guaranteed low price. Without a Reservation, it is also quite likely that on most islands, there won’t be any cars available when you arrive, especially during peak travel times.
Q: If I have to Change or Cancel my reservation, am I charged a fee?
A: No! After you've made a car reservation, you'll receive a Confirmation Number from us. Keep this confirmation number so that in the event of a change or cancellation, you are able to click on our "Change or Car Rental Res." link in the top navigation. There are never any cancellation fees or fees to change a reservation.
Q: What do I need to rent a car?
A: The agency will require a valid driver's license and a major credit card in your own name with enough available funds to cover at least the cost of the rental. Cash an Debit cards may be accepted under very special circumstance (see below).
Q: When do I pay?
A: No credit card is charged until you arrive at the rental agency's counter to pick up your car.
Q: Since you don't require my credit card, how can I be certain you're holding the Reservation for me?
A: You will receive a Confirmation Number from HawaiiActive.com within 24 hours. This number guarantees you the specified rental car at the rate shown. You can always call the Car Rental Company or our offices directly to re-confirm. Simply provide your Confirmation Number.
Q: Are there any additional charges beside the price stated in your Confirmation email?
A: Once you receive the Confirmation Number and price from us, your price will not change, unless you purchase additional services or upgrades.
Q: Can I make last-minute changes to my car rental at the counter when I pick up my rental car?
A: Yes, but you usually get much better rates if you change your reservation in advance by modifying your rental through us.
Q: How do I know if I need to buy additional Insurance?
A: Contact your car insurance company or your local agent. Also, check to see if your credit card company covers additional Insurance when you use that card to pay for your rental.
Q: Are your SUVs 4-Wheel drive?
A: Car Rental Companies offer different fleets and currently Standard SUV’s do not all come with 4WD. Fullsize SUVs sometimes do, but check with us first. All Jeep Wranglers, 2-door and 4-door, are 4WD.
Q: Can I reserve a 12-person van or larger? It's not listed in your Vehicle Class.
A: Email us at cars@hawaiiactive.com with your request. Include Type of vehicle, Location and Dates. If one is available for your specified location and dates, we'll send you pricing and arrange your Reservation if you like.

Q: I don't have a credit card. Can I rent a car with cash only?
A: Alamo is currently the only car rental agency that allows cash car rentals. All documentation must be in the renter's name. A cash deposit will be required in addition to the cost of the rental. A passport is required for all non-U.S. citizens.

Other locations might not check your credit, but will require you to present a third form of identification from the following list:

• A current vehicle insurance card
• A current copy (within the last 60 days) of the customer's cellular phone bill, home telephone bill, bank statement or utility bill
